Chairman’s Review of 2020
Dear Trust Member
A lot has happened since I last wrote to you. The most tragic news is that I lost my lovely Wife, Carol, on 6th September. Since this happened I have been supported by many family, friends and supporters, players and management of Bristol Rugby Club. It is at these times that you find out who your friends are and I am delighted to say that I have many of them. I would like to thank all of you for your support and kind words over what have been the most difficult weeks of my life.
Since Carol was the one who suggested that I take up my role in the Trust I have decided to remain as Chairman and continue the good work that the Trust is doing with the Club.
We have lots of events planned for the season which include the Q&A; session in the Inn on the Green on 23/11 followed by a Quiz night in January and we are also planning another Kayaking fund raising event so watch this space!!!
At half time at the London Welsh game I had the honour of presenting the inaugural ‘Carol Humphreys Memorial Bursary’ on behalf of the members of the BRIS Trust. This donation is to be awarded each year to a promising young Bristol player who needs some financial assistance to give them the best chance to achieve their potential on the rugby field.
Carol always enjoyed watching young players develop into fine young men who could conduct themselves properly both on and off the pitch and this will remain a fine and lasting tribute to her.
It is with much pride that I presented a cheque for £1,000 to Nick Carpenter who is the most promising young England centre of his age group in the country.
We are going to make one and possibly two annual donations of this type and we will be inviting applications towards the end of this season.
